We had a family reunion on my wife's side of the family. This is a great place to go with a large group.

Trip Recap

  • Day 1: Exploring the historic district of Savannah has never been more satisfying before.
  • Day 2: Started the day with a beach run, biked around town, watched dolphins, and cooked seafood.
  • Day 3: Early morning workouts and fishing, followed by a relaxing day at the friendly beach.
  • Day 4: Food truck dining by Barnacle Bills was a hit with the kids.

Highlights

Day 1

Fly into Savannah, GA and have lunch in the downtown historic district. Drive to Hilton Head and get settled into the VRBO. We rented 12 Crabline which sleeps 20+ and was great because there were bedrooms on multiple floors which allowed for privacy given the large group.

Day 2

Early morning wake up and either a run/walk down the beach or workout at Lava 24 which offered a fusion class that was well attended by most of the athletic mamas in our house!!

Rented bikes from Hilton Head Outfitters which is a must. We biked everywhere including great rides down the beach and to/from dinners.

From 3pm-5pm we rented pontoon boats boats from Shelter Cove Marina. We saw lots of dolphins and had a great cocktail hour.

We picked up seafood at Barnacle Bills and cooked crab cakes for dinner.

Great day all the way around!

Day 3

Early morning workouts and fishing! Made a huge breakfast and spent the day at the beach which is one of the most user friendly beaches I have ever been on. There is something for everyone. Sea life, crabs, jellies, etc. The sand is a beautiful white sand but becomes compacted as the tide moves out. It makes for a spectacular playground for soccer, football, beach games, bike riding, or just lounging.

Went out to a great dinner at Skull Creek Boathouse. They do not take reservations, but don’t be alarmed. They gave us a two hour wait, but we found bar space at the great open air bar in the back and ordered fantastic sushi rolls and fried pickles. James the bartender was super friendly and made our time at the bar super easy/fun.

Chatted up Les and his wife at the bar and learned a little about how they made their way down to living in Hilton Head. Everyone we encountered in Hilton Head could not be nicer. Love this place.

Landed a bar table about 1 hour later and had a great dinner.

Day 4

Food trucks behind Barnacle Bills were a favorite of the kids.

The days kinda just started running together to which I guess means we really enjoyed our time down there. The great combo of beach, biking, fishing, workouts, and meals made for a fantastic family getaway!

Anything you would add or do differently?

  • Not sure. Everything just kinda felt good.
