My mother lived in London for a year when she was a college student, so I thought it would be fun to go back there with her. I've always wanted to visit the West End as well and see a play in the theatre district.

Trip Recap

  • Day 1: London's first day was filled with 20k steps exploring iconic landmarks.
  • Day 2: Day two: London, Hamilton in West End, dinner at TGIFs, ultimate bucket list experience.
  • Day 3: London Bridge walk to glass floor, garden restaurant for dinner at dusk.
  • Day 4: Les Miserables in London was a dream come true for us.
  • Day 5: Last day in London: leisurely cafe breakfast, Buckingham Palace, Notting Hill market shopping.

Les Miserables definitely! One of my favorite experiences ever.

Day 1

Our first day was a day of 20,000 steps. Every time I visit a new city, I like to start by exploring on foot. London was no different. We started by walking from our airbnb to Westminster Abbey and the Tower of London. Then we walked to Trafalgar square, and grabbed lunch at a cafe. We then wandered over to Hyde park, and sat in the grass for a while. After strolling around the lake, it was finally time for dinner. We chose a pizza place with a nice view of the river.

Day 2

On our second day, we walked around some more, but the main attraction was going to see our first musical in London's West End. We chose Hamilton, and grabbed dinner at TGIFs before going. The food was great, as it was my mom's guilty pleasure when she lived there. Hamilton was absolutely incredible, and getting to experience it in London was definitely a bucket list item.

Day 3

We started the day early and walked the hour from our hotel to London Bridge. It was a scenic walk, as we passed many attractions and walked along the river. Once we got to the bridge, we bought tickets to go up to the top and walk across the glass floor. Since we were there in March, the line wasn't very long. The glass floor was very cool, and we even got to lay down on it! Afterwards, we ate dinner at a beautiful garden restaurant right by the bridge. The view was incredible as daylight turned to dusk.

Day 4

This was my absolute favorite day, as we went to see Les Miserables, which is my all time favorite musical. I believe it originated in London's west end as well, so that was very special for both me and my mom who introduced me to it. We went to a nice dinner first, and then walked over to the Queen's theatre. The musical had live music from an orchestra and the cast was incredible. Probably one of my favorite versions of Les Miserables I've ever seen! I even bought a tote bag souvenir and a notebook.

Day 5

Since this was our last day, we decided to take it easy. We started the day by sitting at a cafe for a few hours, and then made our way over to Buckingham palace. We figured we had to see it while we were in London, and the queen was actually there when we went as well! After that, we strolled over to the Notting Hill market, which I highly recommend! After buying a leather jacket and vintage trinkets from some of the shops, we then took the bus to the airport (a lot cheaper than taxi), and flew out in the evening.

Anything you would add or do differently?

  • Probably use public transport more often, and cut down on the cabs. Walking is also a great way to get around!
