Day 1
II flew direct into Eagle Vail airport-definitely the way to go if you are skiing in Vail or Beaver Creek…best way to avoid the crazy traffic on 1-70 from Denver. If you are traveling for a longer period of time, then the savings might be worth it to you. HIgh Mountain Taxi, a more affordable option than a black SUV. Safe and friendly drivers. I loved JC! I arrived at the Christiania just before noon and bee-lined it up the mountain. My husband stays with friends at the Christiana, and recommended it to me for its Bavarian flair and absolute perfect location. It’s right in Vail Village, and the ski locker steps out to the lift and the Vista Bahn Gondola. Best day, fresh tracks and dinner at a favorite, Colorado Mountain Standard. Wow had the tri-tip, a rarity for me, and it was amazing. It was fun to sit at the bar and have dinner, seated next to the kindest gentleman, sharing our outlook on current events. Kindred spirit.
Day 2
Made to order breakfast in Sarah’s Lounge at the Christiania is a great option, fast, good and simple menu. I headed toward Blue Sky Basin as a storm was rolling in, and the snow was very heavy, so heavy I couldn’t see my ski tips. I decided to duck out and head back toward the front since I was alone. The snow was incredible off of Game Creek and Northwoods. I stopped at Mid-Vail for my fav, cocoa and schnapps. The hot tub (huge as it’s their warm summer swimming pool) at the Cristiania is a is awesome with views of the mountain, snowflakes coming down…heaven after my day! Dinner at the Fall Line was so good. I enjoyed the best wedge salad I’ve ever had, and felt welcomed by Clark and the other bartender. Great vibes, love the Slim Aarons photographs! Thanks for making a Chicago girl AkA Denver girl feels so welcome.
Day 3
I made the decision to skip the mountain on my last day and run the neighborhood streets in the area, one of my favorite things to do. My car was coming around noon, so I had to be ready and organized. I was finally greeted by sunshine on my walk, and I felt complete!!! It was so nice to have a warm sendoff from Debbie, front desk concierge and Byron the GM of Christiania. The cleaning staff were the best too, along with the ladies who prepared breakfast. Christiania is our new home when we visit Vail.
