Prague

My friend had class, I decided to start exploring the city on my own. I walked through the main city center strips and just took my time looking at architecture, stopping in shops, and finding traditional food to buy. Make sure to stop by the Prague Astrological clock - you cant miss it and it’s super cool to see. I stopped somewhere that served traditional czech goulash and had a drink - contrary to how it looks, it was DELICIOUS.

After that, I found an ice cream spot that sold traditional trdelniks (ice cream wrapped in a sweet puff pastry). Also delicious. Prague has some of the most amazing parks I’ve ever seen, so I took some time to walk through them and relax. In the fall, the leaves and foliage are gorgeous. I made it back to my friends place early evening, and we had dinner there and then got ready to go out (it was Halloween weekend).

Prague has a pretty active nightlife and there are a ton of clubs and bars that you can find yourself at. We ended up at an underground club that had a really fun vibe, good dancing, and wasn’t crazy crowded. We spent the whole night there. Like most of Europe, the Czechs party into the early morning!

In the morning, we went to brunch with some other friends of mine that had also headed to Prague at Denoc, a famous pancake spot known for their sweet AND savory pancakes. To this day, it’s one of the best pancake places I’ve been! Make reservations pretty far in advance for this one, it’s a tiny spot and very very popular.

After that, we headed to the Lennon wall. It’s been painted over so many times and it was fun to try and make out all the art that covers it. It’s situated in one of Prague’s many parks, so we grabbed a coffee and took a stroll through it up to a ledge where you can see a lot of the city and just sat for a while. After lunch, we went on a tour of the Prague Castle, which also sits atop the city. There are multiple parts of it that you can tour on the grounds. From what I remember, it’s fairly cheap. There are a lot of vista points on the walls of the castle where you can catch gorgeous sunset views of the city. We grabbed dinner on the way home and settled in early after a late night out the night before.

On the 3rd day, we wanted to do something more local, so we took a trip to the zoo! It’s one of the best zoological parks in the world and has species that are almost extinct, so you can see some really rare animals there out and about. It was such a fun way to spend half of the day, and it’s pretty big, so you can spend as much time as you want.

For an early dinner, we headed to a part of town that encompasses Prague’s music scene and found some live music. Culturally, Prague has an extremely rich history and vibe, from art and music to food and literature, you can find such rich culture in Prauge. We stumbled upon an amazing used book shop, some street art, and great music while we were just wandering.

It’s a small city with a lot of laid back energy, so you don’t need to be go-go-go here. 3 days was enough for me to get a good visit, but take some more if you want to really take in all that the surrounding area has to offer!
