Seattle with Friends

We arrived mid-day and immediately made our way to Public market / Pike Place. Of course, besides the needle, its one of Seattles most popular spots to see. It’s got such a fun mix of things, as it’s simultaneously an open air market, mixed with a Main Street with shops and restaraunts and coastal access. Of course, the first Starbucks is there too, which you can just grab a cup of joe at or take a small tour of their little museum. We ate at a few of the many food vendors at the market, and even watched the Pike Place Fish Market workers throw the fish back and forth like you see all over the internet. It was so fun to see! Once it got dark, we took a spin on the Ferris wheel right on the water, for pretty night city light views.

Seattle has a rich history as being a coastal town in the rainiest part of the country. Years ago, a rise in sea levels caused a flood that wiped out the early version of Seattle, on top of which they built modern day Seattle. Some of the old city is still in tact underground and you can take underground tours to walk through the tunnels (aka, the old city streets) and learn about it all. It was such an interesting experience and they give you a guide as well. It was an unexpected thing we happened upon and took a few hours. We had a blast!

Midday, we went in search of some bookshops, as the PNW has a reputation for the coziest bookshops. We found Arundel Books and Lamplight Bookshop to wander through for a while. I love a good bookshop, so this is almost a stop in any city for me. After that, we headed towards the space needle to have dinner and wait for our allotted reservation time. The needle gets super busy and can sell out, so make time you get your tickets early on. We ate at a sports bar down the street from it,then went up for our reservation. There is a bar and restaraunt at the top of it, which you can grab a drink from while you’re taking in the views from the top. We took one of those green screen photos, and it came out hilarious, so of course we had to buy it. Very touristy, but honestly pretty worth it. We loved it!

We had about ⅔ of a day the last day, so we opted to spend it at the Seattle Aquarium. It’s a pretty renowned aquarium given its location, and they have a ton of species. They had the cutest little sea otters. It was the perfect easy-going activity before our flights home, and we spent 2-3 hours there.
