Napa is such a beautiful place to visit....we loved riding the bikes - a definite highlight!!

Day 1

We arrived Thursday night in San Fran and stayed close to airport. The next morning, we rented a van and made our way to the Napa Valley area, visiting wineries along the way until we arrived in Calistoga. Our first stop was Domaine Carneros - it's such a beautiful Chateau and the bubbles are delish! Our next stop was Oakville Grocery for some yummy sandwiches. There is a wine store adjacent to the grocey where you select a glass from a huge variety of wines. In the market, there are a lot of fun things to look at and a great spot to buy souvenirs. I picked up some balsamic onion jam that is delicious. We made our way to Far Niente which is gorgeous and their wines are fabulous. Their bottles are a bit more pricey but recently opened Bella Union which is geared for the new wine connoisseur and younger crowd. It's a pretty cool/hip place to check-out. We stayed at Dr. Wilkinson's Backyard Resort which is retro and chic. Dinner at Bricco Osteria - within walking distance. The food was good and they catered to our 21 year olds!

Day 2

Today we visited wineries in Calistoga. We rented e-bikes and had a blast seeing Napa on bike. It is a beautiful way to take in the scenery and the newly completed bike path makes it so convenient. Our first stop was Larkmead. This is a family owned winery and has some of the most delicious reds I have ever enjoyed. We love it! Since we had a little extra time before our next scheduled appointment, we stopped by Frank's Winery which is across the street. Grabbed a bottle of their sparkling rose and ate our packed a picnic lunch (grabbed cheese, salami, bread, and fruit from grocery near hotel)....another beautiful setting to enjoy. After lunch, we made our way to Schramsberg - another favorite of ours. They are known for their sparkling wine. We did the cave tour which is well worth the time. Sampled sparkling and red (from their label - J. Davies). Schramsberg is such a beautiful winery. Our final winery was Tamber Bey. They have a horse ranch which is why we wanted to go. Enjoy a glass and mingle with the horses....another wonderful place to visit. After a full day of tasting, we made our way back to town, returned the bikes, and enjoyed the hot spring pools at the hotel. We topped the night off with dinner at Solbar at the Auberge. It was fantastic and we enjoyed an evening outside in the crisp air.

Anything you would add or do differently?

  • We went to a lot of wineries on day 2 - loved them all but by the time we got to the last one, we were about done. Loved riding the bikes...maybe next time I'd do a few less wineries and just explore and maybe hit a few of the stores in town.
